Katharina Dustmann

BREATHING IN COLOUR AND MUSIC

The art of Katharina Dustmann is based on a neurological phenomenon called synesthesia. In this state, in which she combines different sensory perceptions, she creates works of art that result in a very sensual and intuitive form of expression, moving between different media such as painting, photography, music and multimedia installations. Her special ability to interweave visual and auditory elements gives her works a unique dimension and emotional depth.

Since 1996, Katharina Dustmann has dedicated herself to spatially dynamic light and sound art, transforming interiors, natural spaces and architecture into a fascinating interplay of music, film and sound compositions. Her projects have been realized for well-known institutions and events such as the Cologne Philharmonic, Pinakothek der Moderne, Euroga 2000 , Gasometer Oberhausen,UNESCO, Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex (Essen)etc.implemented.

In 2018, Katharina Dustmann entered a new creative terrain: KLANGBILDER/SOUND OF COLORS. These are paintings and photographic color compositions, some of which are accompanied by specially composed music that is recorded in the recording studio and together form a total work of art. This transformative art form opened up new ways of looking at images and challenged the art scene once again.

In her latest series “Where the light lives in the water”, Katharina Dustmann shows the subtle relationships between color, light and shadow, in and under water, and once again presents herself as a pioneer in the field of abstract art. Her color compositions, made from photographs, with color pigments and various materials, on carrier plates she has developed herself, evoke a very unique space and revolutionize ideas about the power of color.
